Riyad Mahrez came in the side as his replacement but the Portuguese winger will be a big miss for Pep Guardiola as he has been an integral part of his team.

It was confirmed by commentator Jim Proudfoot that Silva was left out of the side due to a muscle problem.

Pep Guardiola also confirmed that the winger was out through injury and why Kevin De Bruyne was only on the bench.

He told BT Sport: “Bernardo is injured and Kevin De Bruyne could play but I decided to play Gundogen at that position.

“I know this Tottenham team’s physicality is incredible in the last minutes when they are strong.

“We are going to use him when we need him.”

Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho both returned to the starting XI for the important clash at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
