Manchester United news: Eric Bailly suffers injury scare on international duty for Ivory Coast

Manchester United have been handed a fresh injury scare as defender Eric Bailly was involved in a nasty collision while playing for the Ivory Coast on Saturday night.

The 24-year-old suffered a heavy blow to the head while competing for the ball before falling to the ground.

His worried team-mates run towards Bailly to help him, with one opening his mouth to check if he had swallowed his tongue during the incident.

Thankfully, the defender did not seem in too much pain from the unsavoury scenes and was soon back on his feet.

He was later substituted as a precaution.

It was a sour end to what had been a fine performance from the United defender for his national team up until that point.

Bailly had doubled his country’s advantage with a towering header from a corner as they defeated Rwanda 3-0 in their final Group H game as part of African Cup of Nations qualification.

The win guaranteed Ivory Coast a second-place finish in the group behind leaders Guinea, who still have their final match against Central African Republic to come.

Bailly’s last appearance at club level was his horror show as a makeshift right-back during United’s incredible 3-1 victory away at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The Ivorian was substituted after just 36 minutes at the Parc des Princes after suffering a knock.

Ivory Coast’s Twitter account has since confirmed that the injury was not too serious, with Bailly expected to make a swift recovery.
