Laurence Bassini has told talkSPORT he is waiting for confirmation if Bolton will be hit with a 12-point deduction next season before he commits to buying the Championship club.
The British businessman has revealed to Jim White there is a danger Bolton could be penalised after current chairman Ken Anderson attempted to put the crisis-hit club into administration.
Bassini has accused Anderson, derided by Trotters fans for his mismanagement of the club and their finances, of ‘not being able to let go’ and has urged the club to give him the answers he needs.
The former Watford owner joined talkSPORT on Thursday to share an update on his ongoing attempt to save the relegated club from their financial struggles.
Bassini’s takeover has been agreed, although doubts have been raised over the past week about whether the deal will go through, with reports claiming he had failed to prove to the EFL he has sufficient funds.
It was also suggested he had failed to fulfil his vow to pay players̢۪ outstanding wages for March and April, although he has insisted that was taken out of his hands.
Bassini says he now has the proof of funds, but admitted to talkSPORT a few stumbling blocks still stand in the way of him becoming the new owner of Bolton Wanderers – including an additional £14million of debt he must now look to settle on top of what he has already promised.

Speaking to Jim White on Thursday, he said: â€Å“I’ve now got the proof of funds, which I said I would have.
â€Å“Where I wanted to pay the wages for the players last week, I’m not controlling the mandate on that.
â€Å“I’ve arranged to have the money in place, and I’m adding some money into it as well, so the club will have what it needs.
â€Å“But there is a problem – there is a lot more debt there than we thought, and it means we’ll probably we’ll need another £14million on top.
â€Å“Another problem is a couple of weeks ago Ken Anderson tried to put the club into administration, and because he did this it triggered a default, like a breach, which carries a 12-point penalty.
â€Å“So it means they’ll go into the new season with the risk of getting a 12-point deduction. So obviously I’ll need an answer on that.
â€Å“The EFL have said they are speaking to the club, they’ve asked them for information and they haven’t got it yet. The club needs to give this information.
â€Å“I want to do this deal, but if you’re going to take 12 points off, how can I complete on it? What chance are we going to have to get this club up if that happens?
â€Å“I told Anderson I was doing the deal, but he still did it. The whole time he’s told various people that I wanted him to stay on as a director, to still be at the club – what are you talking about? The guy can’t let go!
â€Å“I need those assurances and I’m ready to go. I don’t want to go into this with a 12-point deduction.
â€Å“I’m not going to say we might as well sit in administration, but that’s where we’re at.
â€Å“If that’s the case, in a way it’s better to do that because we’ll save £10m and will have £10m more to build on the club.
â€Å“It’s a very serious issue.â€
Bassini continued his tirade against Anderson, following news the hotel located at the club̢۪s University of Bolton Stadium has been temporarily closed this week, apparently against his wishes.
â€Å“The hotel closed yesterday and it didn’t need to close,†he added.
â€Å“I wanted to clear it up last week, I insisted upon it, I would have got a validation order and they would have had an extra £200,000 to pay all the staff today.
â€Å“But no, he’s got to be stubborn and do mad things.
â€Å“That is why this club is the way it is. Somebody should have stepped in a long time ago to sort it out, because there are serious, serious problems there and you just don’t get the correct answers you should be getting.â€
