Solskjaer and his No.2 Mike Phelan have been working alongside first-team coaches Kieran McKenna and Michael Carrick.

There has also been praise of Solskjaer’s work from within the United dressing room, with midfielder Nemanja Matic saying: “I think he’s a great manager. I will be happy if he stays and I hope he will.

“But you have to say also that with Mike, Michael and Kieran, they work very well together. It’s not only Ole.”

United face a season-defining month in April when they take on Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals, while also facing Premier League clashes against Manchester City and Chelsea.

Solskjaer’s men will be looking to bounce back from two successive defeats to Arsenal and Wolves when they entertain Watford on Saturday.
