Shaun Wright-Phillips believes Frank Lampard should ‘wait a little bit longer’ and snub Chelsea’s advances if he is offered the opportunity to replace Maurizio Sarri this summer.
Blues legend Lampard has been heavily linked with the manager’s job at Stamford Bridge, with continued uncertainty over Sarri’s future as he ponders a move back to Serie A with Juventus.
However, former Chelsea winger Wright-Phillips, a £21m signing from Manchester City back in 2005, wants Lampard to bide his time and continue to develop as a manager at Derby.
“He may as well continue progressing as a coach and then when he goes there he goes there for good,” Wright-Phillips speaking exclusively to 888sport, said.

“That’s what I would like to see him do but if he feels ready for it – and only he knows – he should jump at it.”
He continued: “I think if Frank gets the job he’s going to bring a feeling of calmness. He is Mr Chelsea.
“He knows what the club needs and how the football should be played for the fans to get back to enjoying it and fully supporting it.”
Wright-Phillips, the son of Arsenal legend Ian, has further warned Lampard that stepping into the role could prove a big mistake and affect his credentials as a young boss in the game.
“Chelsea is not an easy job to step into and there is no point him stepping in and getting the sack within two years,” he added.
“If I was in Frank’s shoes I would wait a little bit longer.”
