And The Times claim the midfielder will have the chance to impress Blues boss Maurizio Sarri on their pre-season tour in July.

But if he is not able to dislodge the likes of N’Golo Kante and Ross Barkley from Chelsea’s midfield, then he could be sent back on loan to Derby.

The Rams will be playing Premier League football next season if they beat Aston Villa.

Bundesliga club RB Leipzig have been linked with a summer move for Mount, who could follow in Jadon Sancho’s footsteps by becoming the next Englishman to ply his trade in Germany.

When asked about Leipzig’s interest last month, Lampard said: “That’s his call.

“It depends how Chelsea see it and how he sees it. It depends what is the best plan for him.

“What we can say is that the year he’s had – he’s had a great year which has put him on a big step up the ladder.”

When questioned on his future the Argentine failed to give any assurances over his long-term plans, admitting situations can change quickly within football. "But again it's the same question as two months ago, three months ago,'' Pochettino told his pre-match press conference ahead of the Liverpool fixture.
