Manchester United Women were congratulated on their promotion to the Women’s Super League by local rivals Manchester City – before the Red Devils’ official Twitter account.
The achievement, sealed thanks to a 5-0 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday, was initially only celebrated on the @ManUtdWomen account.

United Women sealed promotion on Wednesday
It remarkably took 17 hours for the @ManUtd account to acknowledge the feat.
In the meantime, fierce rivals City publicly congratulated United, tweeting: “Congratulations @ManUtdWomen on your promotion to the @FAWSL! See you next season!”
Unlike United, City have one Twitter account which covers both their men’s and women’s teams.
Casey Soney’s side earned the promotion just one year after United Women reformed.

They are seven points clear at the top of the Women’s Championship with three games to go and cannot be caught by Charlton or Durham.
During their latest display of dominance, Millie Turner, Alex Greenwood and Jess Sigsworth made it 3-0 at half-time.
Ella Toone made it 4-0 and Charlie Devlin rounded off the scoring with a close-range finish. Aston Villa goalkeeper, Sian Rogers, was also sent off.

It is understood United’s promotion remains subject to meeting FAWSL Licence criteria.
It is not expected United will encounter any problems, with confirmation due next month.
